FEED ME TRAVEL: instagrammers who inspire us before breakfast
Laura La Monaca
You live in Milan. Were you born and raised here?
I was born and raised in Catania on the east coast of Sicily. Twelve years ago I moved to Milan to study at the University.
What do you love most about living in Milan?
Milan is a wonderful metropolitan city to live in. It’s lively and quiet at the same time. The food scene combines tradition and innovation!
What are three or four hidden gems/off the beaten path things you think travelers should see/do/explore/ eat in Sicily?
See: Saint Agatha Festival in Catania the first week of February
Do: A tour in one of the great vineyards on Mt Etna
Explore: Mt Etna, the tallest active volcano on the European continent
Eat: Everything! Seriously you cannot leave Sicily without trying arancini, cartocciate, pizzette, granita with brioche, pasta alla norma, pasta con le sarde, seafood…
What kind of traveler are you?
I’m the one without the map. I love to explore the area I’m visiting and to get lost. I like super fancy hotels, but I do love to rent apartments. It makes me feel like I’m home and I can live the travel experience like a local.
What is one of your favorite travel memories from a trip you have taken?
The Great Barrier Reef off the Australian Coast is something really amazing!
Where is the most interesting place you have traveled to?
Tokyo is certainly one of the most interesting place I’ve visited so far. Parks, food, Shinto shrine, everything from their culture is charming and fascinating!
If you could go any one place right now, where would that be?
Hawaii all life long
What is the most memorable meal you photographed on an adventure?
The Tsukiji Market, the fish market in Tokyo, early in the morning! I know it’s not a meal but it was a great food experience!
What do you eat for breakfast?
I’m Italian so I used to have a sweet breakfast in the morning. Some fresh fruit, a cup of coffee with oat drink and a piece of cake or homemade bread and jam. That’s it!
