Who is the woman behind the Blackbird Chronicles?

My name is Barbara. I’m from London. My passion for travel started after a series of unfortunate events within a space of 3 months. I lost my confidence. I lost my voice. I became reclusive. I wallowed in self-pity. I lost my ambition. I lost my drive. Basically I lost myself. I decided to use the little savings I had to get away. It was the best thing that I ever did for myself and I recommend traveling to anybody going through a hard time. Travel experiences will enrich you more than any handbag or designer shoe can.

What’s behind the name of your feed?

Sentimental reason. I became close to a girl that I met in a hostel in Bolivia. She was Brazilian and spoke 5 languages and was good at sketching. We got to know each other very well and I opened up about my past. When she left Bolivia, she gave me a comic book that she had made called Blackbird Chronicles. It is about a girl who chronicled her way around the world and touched and inspired people.

Do you have a go instagram filter or go to iPhone photo editing app?

My favorite filters are Hudson and Lo-fi as they give clean and brighter edits. I sometimes edit using Wood Camera.

Whose instagram travels inspire you?

I follow people from all over the world to gain an insight into their cities and towns. Recently I discovered @worldwanderlust. She has been everywhere and is going everywhere AND she is doing it alone, just like I did when I travelled the world. Women should not feel afraid to travel solo. You meet other travelers and you learn to trust your instincts in order to stay safe.

Travel Vlog

What is a favorite place you’ve photographed?

Rio de Janeiro – this photo says it all.

What’s next on your destination list?

During the winter, I am looking to visit Scotland as I’ve heard so many wonderful things about its cliffs, mountains and beaches.

Where’s somewhere special you have been that you think everyone should explore?

I highly recommend Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. I’ve never seen anything like it and it’ll be a long time until I do. It is a vast salt desert and a breeding ground for flamingos. There are different colored lakes – blue, green, red, yellow. Don’t let sleeping in a tent in 6 degrees Celsius put you off because the sunrises will leave you speechless. In summer when it rains, the clouds are reflected on the ground and you cannot see the horizon. Just stunning! Go see for yourself!

What do you have for breakfast?

I enjoy a selection of colorful fruit with 100% Greek yoghurt, toast and beetroot juice for breakfast.

Do you have a travel quote or one of your won that you live by?

Once a year, go somewhere you’ve never been

Anything else you want people to know about you?

Spending a lot of time abroad traveling and backpacking means that I have also spent a lot of time in my swimsuits and bikinis. I am currently working on a swimsuit range in time for next year. Stay tuned.
